SCP Youth Orchestras to perform season-finale concert

The three ensembles of the South Carolina Philharmonic Youth Orchestras program close their season with a Koger Center performance Sunday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m.

Patrons can enjoy listening to tomorrow’s musicians today as the Junior Strings, Repertory and Youth orchestras each perform a selection of works. Nearly 200 Midlands students participate in the program, which offers advanced musical instruction to elementary, middle and high school-aged students. The ensembles come together for three concerts each season.

Andrew C. Preston, Jr. conducts the Junior Strings Orchestra, Maurice Hood conducts the Repertory Orchestra and Dr. Jerry Gatch conducts the Youth Orchestra, which also performs Saturday, April 30th with the full SCP, the orchestra’s first side-by-side piece since 2004.

Tickets for the Youth Orchestras concert are available the day of the concert only from 2 p.m. in the Koger Center lobby. Seating is general admission, and tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.
