Reviewed: All About the Bass (Free Times)

Greg Barnes of the Free Times reviews All About the Bass, which was Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Koger Center. The extraordinary soloist, collaborator, and composer Edgar Meyer was the featured soloist for his own First Bass Concerto and the Bottesini Second Bass Concerto. Music Director Morihiko Nakahara also presented works by Kodaly and Mozart.

"... Edgar Meyer was the soloist, so even in the most serious passages of the most sober music, you were only a flash away from a delightful string bass moment, watching Meyer sweep up the fingerboard to a harmonic note that sounded more like a flute than a bass, or delight you in an outrageously wild passage to take your breath away."
