SCP’s Hunsinger to receive Renaissance Foundation award

South Carolina Philharmonic Executive Director Rhonda Hunsinger is the winner of a 2012 Passing the Torch Award from Columbia’s Renaissance Foundation.

Hunsinger receives the award at a Nov. 30, 2012 awards gala at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Honorees recognized are “servant leaders under 50” who demonstrate “tireless and selfless” community service, making “significant contributions” that improve quality of life across cultural communities.

“I am honored to be recognized with such distinguished leaders in our community,” Hunsinger said. “It is wonderful that the Renaissance Society takes time to recognize those who strive to make Columbia a better place for people to live and work. The South Carolina Philharmonic is an important part of our cultural and economic fabric, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate this in such a special way.”

The Renaissance Foundation was formed in October 1996 and became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2001. The Renaissance Foundation was established for the charitable purpose of improving the lives of people of all ages and enhancing the quality of life in their neighborhoods. This faith-based organization has much to offer because it is active in the neighborhoods and responds to on-going needs of the community by supporting mission programs.

The Renaissance Foundation provides cultural diversity, outreach, resources, partnerships and initiatives within the community in order to bridge the gaps of disparities and provide a platform to address those issues. For more information, visit
