Lyu Lian began playing the violin at the age of five. In 2013, she entered East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai, China, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in violin performance. In 2019, she received her second master’s degree in violin performance from the University of North Dakota (UND) under the tutelage of Dr. Alejandro Drago. During her studies, she had the privilege of working with Adam Kostecki, violin professor at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in Germany. In 2025, she graduated with her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in violin performance from the University of Georgia under the guidance of Professor Levon Ambartsumian and Shakhida Azimkhodjaeva, with a minor in pedagogy under Professor Kristin Jutras.

Lyu served as concertmaster of her university symphony orchestras for several years and worked with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra for two years. She was the first violin of the UND String Quartet and a member of the ARCO Chamber Orchestra. She is an active performer in solo and chamber music and performs in the section of orchestras including the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and Savannah Philharmonic. She joined the South Carolina Philharmonic in 2025 and is also the violinist of the Farian Duo.
